Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine: We mourn the martyrs Ashraf Dahlan, Shadi Abu Atiya and Sami Baroud, employees of the Islamic University security staff

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine: ▪We mourn the martyrs Ashraf Dahlan, Shadi Abu Atiya and Sami Baroud, employees of the Islamic University security staff, who were killed while on duty, and extend our deepest condolences to their families, the university administration, and their female and male colleagues. ▪The Israeli occupation’s targeting of the university with two airstrikes, coinciding with the start of regular in-person classes, represents an attack on efforts toward social recovery in the Gaza Strip, the restoration of its educational and national institutions, and the resumption of the educational process. ▪We call on academic and educational institutions around the world to stand in solidarity with the universities of the Gaza Strip, which are facing a systematic Israeli targeting that affects educational institutions and the conditions for their continuity, as part of the comprehensive war of extermination on the Palestinian presence in the Strip. ▪We call on free people of the world to escalate solidarity action and pressure governments to take serious positions and measures that put an end to the occupation’s crimes, the war of extermination, and the plans of ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.

Palestinian Journalists Bloc in Gaza:

▪We strongly condemn the arrest by Israeli occupation forces at dawn on Thursday of journalist Alaa Al-Rimawi after storming his home in the city of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank. ▪Journalist Alaa Al-Rimawi had been released from the occupation prisons several months ago, after which he returned to practicing his journalistic and humanitarian work within his natural and guaranteed right to practice his profession and convey events and facts to the public. ▪The escalation of violations against the Palestinian journalistic community and what this represents as a direct infringement on press freedom and the right of journalists to perform their professional mission. ▪The arrest of journalists because of their work constitutes a violation of press freedom and the public's right to know, and increases the risks faced by Palestinian journalists while performing their professional duty. ▪We call on media, human rights, and international institutions to assume their responsibilities in protecting Palestinian journalists and working to stop their pursuit and arrest. ▪We demand the immediate release of journalist Alaa Al-Rimawi and all male and female journalists detained in the occupation prisons. ▪More than 20 male and female journalists are still held in the occupation prisons, amid difficult humanitarian and living conditions, which requires urgent action by the international institutions concerned with press freedom and human rights. ▪Protecting journalists and freedom of journalistic work are not a privilege but a basic right that must be respected and guaranteed, and the continued detention of journalists will not obscure the truth nor prevent the Palestinian press from continuing to carry out its mission.
