Israeli artillery stationed south of Khan Younis fires shells toward the western area of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza StripBreaking | Safa follow-up | Palestinian Journalists Forum: The savage assault suffered by photojournalist Heidi Levine, of The Washington Post Breaking | Safa follow-up | Palestinian Journalists Forum: ▪The savage assault suffered by photojournalist Heidi Levine, of The Washington Post, at the hands of settler mobs and under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, in the village of Abu Falah east of Ramallah in the West Bank, which resulted, according to the newspaper, in her suffering fractures after being thrown to the ground and kicked, despite wearing a vest clearly marked with a press insignia. ▪The occupation’s targeting of journalists, including foreign journalists, and the assault on them while carrying out their professional duties constitutes a violation of press freedom and an attack on journalists’ right to convey the truth and document events without threat or intimidation. ▪We stress the need to provide protection for journalists, hold accountable those responsible for this assault and other ongoing assaults against journalists, and ensure that the attackers do not escape accountability. We call on international press and human rights institutions to condemn these practices and to take effective action to protect Palestinian and foreign journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories. ▪This terrorist behavior by settler mobs in the West Bank against Palestinian and foreign journalists alike is an extension and complement to the official Israeli decision to ban the foreign press from entering the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the genocide, in an effort to prevent exposing its chapters and to stop the transmission of Gaza’s suffering and the occupation’s ongoing crimes against civilians there. ▪We express our full solidarity with colleague Heidi Levine, wishing her a speedy recovery and safety, and we affirm that the assaults will not deter journalists from continuing their professional mission of conveying the truth and exposing violations.Martyrdom of Adham Khalil Ma'rouf (33 years old) following a strike by an Israeli drone on the roof of a house belonging to the Shalha family near the telecommunications area in Jabalia camp, north of the Gaza Strip
