Jabalia al-Nazla Municipality: We call on international institutions and the relevant authorities to urgently intervene to operate the Safatawi basin pump, which has become the largest rainwater and sewage collection pool in northern Gaza Strip, to avert a humanitarian and environmental disaster during the winter season.
Jabalia al-Nazla Municipality:
▪ We call on international institutions and the relevant authorities to urgently intervene to operate the Safatawi basin pump, which has become the largest rainwater and sewage collection pool in northern Gaza Strip, to avert a humanitarian and environmental disaster during the winter season.
▪ The destruction of infrastructure and the "Abu Rashid" pool - which was considered the largest rainwater collection pool - forced the municipality to temporarily divert rainwater and sewage to the Safatawi pool.
▪ The current pool serves wide areas including al-Nazla and Safatawi, and also receives water from the Bir al-Na'ajah area in Jabalia camp and the Aslan area in Beit Lahia.
▪ The توقف operations of pumping and the stagnation of water in the basin pose a direct danger to the lives of thousands of citizens and displaced people residing in dilapidated tents and destroyed homes, warning that rainfall may lead to the flooding of the entire area and cause a humanitarian disaster that could reach the point of death.
▪ The pump needs a 200 KVA electric generator to operate it and pump the stagnant water in it, calling on international and humanitarian institutions, led by UNICEF, the Palestinian Water Authority, and Coastal Municipal Water Utility, to respond quickly to ensure the operation of the pump and avert the expected disaster.
