▪ On the thirtieth anniversary of the Tunnel Intifada, we affirm that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a purely Islamic endowment, and that the occupation has no alleged legitimacy over any inch of Palestinian land and holy sites. ▪ In a press statement today, Friday, the movement recalled the “Tunnel” uprising that broke out in 1996 in response to the occupation’s opening of a tunnel beneath Al-Aqsa Mosque, lasted six months, and resulted in the martyrdom of about 100 Palestinians and the injury of more than 1,600 people. ▪ Commemoration of the anniversary comes amid escalating aggression against the city of Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the West Bank, in parallel with the continued aggression on the Gaza Strip and the ongoing massacres it is inflicting against civilians.
