Gaza & Palestine
General Directorate of Civil Defense in Gaza:
▪ We received, at around two-thirty this morning, distress signals from the administration of the shelter center adjacent to the damaged Al-Saada building, indicating sudden cracks and fissures in the building and that it was housing more than one hundred displaced people. ▪ Our specialized teams immediately headed to the scene and dealt with it with the support of the Egyptian Committee, the Red Cross, UNDP, and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the results were as follows: ▪ 35 people were evacuated from the building and the adjacent tents and transported to safe places away from danger, with confirmation of their health safety. ▪ When the building collapsed, our teams dealt with 45 injured people, and they were transported in cooperation with ambulance service providers to hospitals. ▪ When the building collapsed, our teams worked immediately in an attempt to rescue people alive, and after hard work that lasted for hours, they were able to recover the bodies of 21 people who were missing under the rubble. Thus, the mission was completed.
21 martyrs, including 12 children, 5 women, and two elderly people, recovered from under the rubble of the "Al-Saada" building that collapsed on the heads of displaced people inside it at dawn today in the Al-Sinaa area west of Gaza City
International Committee of the Red Cross:
▪ The collapse of a damaged building in Gaza City is a reminder of the unbearable conditions that tens of thousands of people are forced to endure. ▪ Civilians continue to suffer hardship and death. In addition to the lack of adequate shelter, they face persistent difficulties in accessing health care, safe water, and other basic needs. ▪ We provided materials to support search and response efforts, in response to a request from the local authorities in Gaza. ▪ As winter approaches and heavy rains and strong winds increase, the risk of collapse of damaged buildings increases and puts lives at risk.
Civil Defense in Gaza:
▪ More than 2000 residential buildings in the Strip are at risk of collapse ▪ We call for an end to the suffering and for the entry of mobile homes instead of tents that are not fit for living
Civil Defense in Gaza:
▪ Efforts to recover victims from under the rubble of the collapsed building are still ongoing until now ▪ 20 victims have been recovered, including 8 children, and more than 20 have been rescued
