Head of the Olive Presses Committee in the Gaza Strip, Shaher Al-Reefi:
▪ The number of presses fit for operation has declined significantly compared with 2022, when there were 39 presses with a production capacity reaching 136 tons per hour. ▪ The number of presses that can be operated has dropped to 8 presses, most of them in the central governorate. ▪ The presses are suffering from a severe shortage of spare parts and a sharp increase in maintenance costs, in addition to power outages and fuel shortages. ▪ There is communication with supporting institutions to secure fuel, generator oils, technical labor, and train staff on the operating mechanism. ▪ Guidance tours for farmers are organized inside the fields, and work is underway to provide part of the labor costs for harvesting operations. ▪ The presses form a key link between the agricultural and industrial sectors and an important source of job opportunities in the fields, transport, storage, and operation. ▪ Initial estimates indicate about 5,000 tons of olive fruits within an area estimated at 5,000 dunams planted with olive trees. ▪ Efforts are being made to benefit from the pressing output and reduce production costs in a way that suits the purchasing power of consumers in the Strip.

Palestinian Civil Society Organizations Coalition:
▪ We affirm that legislative elections are an inherent right of the Palestinian people and a national and democratic entitlement to renew legitimacy and build institutions based on the popular will and the rule of law. ▪ We welcome moving forward with holding the elections scheduled for 28 November 2026 as a key step to end the state of stagnation and institutional division and to strengthen political participation. ▪ We affirm the necessity that the elections be free, fair, transparent, competitive and inclusive, and that they guarantee citizens’ right to vote and run without exclusion or discrimination. ▪ We believe that the unity of the electoral process must include Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank as an expression of the unity of the people, the land and the Palestinian cause. ▪ We demand ensuring the participation of displaced persons and those affected by the war, and not turning the loss of homes, documents or places of residence into a reason to prevent them from exercising their electoral right. ▪ We affirm the necessity of protecting the independence and neutrality of the Central Elections Commission and enabling it to carry out its duties away from any political interference or pressure. ▪ We call for providing an environment that guarantees freedom of opinion and expression, assembly, election campaigning, media, and the protection of candidates, activists, journalists and observers. ▪ We affirm the importance of ensuring the genuine and effective participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities and marginalized groups in elections, candidacy and decision-making. ▪ We warn against the use of political money, vote-buying, or exploiting humanitarian needs and public resources to influence the will of voters. ▪ We call for independent and effective local monitoring of all stages of the electoral process and benefiting from international monitoring in accordance with legal frameworks. ▪ We affirm the necessity of combating hate speech and electoral disinformation and ensuring that all lists and candidates reach citizens in a balanced media environment. ▪ We affirm the necessity of respecting election results and resorting to legal and judicial means in case of objection, in a manner that ensures the peaceful transfer of power. ▪ We believe that legislative elections should be an entry point to complete the democratic process, including holding presidential elections and activating the institutions of the Palestine Liberation Organization on democratic and representative bases. ▪ We call for a comprehensive national dialogue that strengthens political pluralism, reconciliation, participation and accountability, and rebuilds the Palestinian political system on democratic foundations. ▪ The Palestinian people deserve elections that reflect their free will and an effective parliament subject to accountability and protecting rights and freedoms, and the success of the elections is measured by the extent of their integrity, inclusiveness and respect for their results, not merely by their holding.
