The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor: The risk of famine returns again to the Gaza Strip amid Israel’s continued use of starvation as a tool to carry out genocide.
The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor:
▪The risk of famine returns again to the Gaza Strip amid Israel’s continued use of starvation as a tool to carry out genocide.
▪The siege imposed by Israel and its destruction of food sources leave more than two million Palestinians without the means to survive, reinforcing the crime of genocide.
▪Our field team recorded a severe shortage of vegetables, fruits and basic goods, along with price increases to levels beyond residents’ purchasing power.
▪The depletion of flour and the shortage of fuel caused the closure of a number of bakeries, including two main bakeries, depriving thousands of families of bread.
▪Seven bakeries still operating with support from the World Food Programme face the risk of stopping within 48 hours due to the ban on the entry of flour trucks.
▪Residents have been suffering a state of mass panic since 20 October, and are forced to reduce their meals amid severe hardship in securing infant formula and nutritional supplements.
▪The Israeli authorities deliberately halted coordination for the entry of commercial goods for several days, restricting quantities to a very narrow range while closing the crossing on Friday and Saturday.
▪The total volume of goods entering the Strip does not exceed 37% of its actual needs, amid the deliberate entry of secondary items and restrictions on basic foods.
▪Accounts from older people and diabetes patients show their inability to secure food suitable for their health conditions, with some forced to rely on one meal a day.
▪The World Food Programme decided to suspend its aid to about 500,000 people in Gaza due to a funding shortage, widening the food gap by double.
▪The Ministry of Health in Gaza recorded the deaths of 466 Palestinians, including 157 children, due to famine and malnutrition since 2024.
▪The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification confirms that 1.4 million people in the Strip are facing acute food insecurity.
▪Imposing destructive living conditions on Palestinians is part of the crime of genocide and constitutes a violation of the binding measures issued by the International Court of Justice.
▪The international community must act to stop the genocide, end the siege and open the crossings, alongside imposing sanctions and a comprehensive ban on the export of weapons to Israel.
▪We call on donor states and United Nations-affiliated organizations to reverse the decision to stop aid to half a million people and work to document the obstruction of the entry of supplies.
