Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine: ▪We mourn the martyrs Ashraf Dahlan, Shadi Abu Atiya and Sami Baroud, employees of the Islamic University security staff, who were killed while on duty, and extend our deepest condolences to their families, the university administration, and their female and male colleagues. ▪The Israeli occupation’s targeting of the university with two airstrikes, coinciding with the start of regular in-person classes, represents an attack on efforts toward social recovery in the Gaza Strip, the restoration of its educational and national institutions, and the resumption of the educational process. ▪We call on academic and educational institutions around the world to stand in solidarity with the universities of the Gaza Strip, which are facing a systematic Israeli targeting that affects educational institutions and the conditions for their continuity, as part of the comprehensive war of extermination on the Palestinian presence in the Strip. ▪We call on free people of the world to escalate solidarity action and pressure governments to take serious positions and measures that put an end to the occupation’s crimes, the war of extermination, and the plans of ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people.
Ministry of Interior and National Security:
▪ The collapse of the "Al-Saada" building on the heads of its residents raises concerns about the existence of hundreds of buildings at risk of collapse amid the absence of housing alternatives ▪ Upon receiving a report of the collapse of the "Al-Saada" building in the Al-Sina'a area in Al-Sabra neighborhood in Gaza at dawn today, Civil Defense and medical services teams, with police support, rushed to rescue those trapped under the rubble, and the number of those trapped is estimated at about 100 people ▪ Civil Defense continued to recover the bodies of 21 martyrs from under the rubble during more than 15 continuous hours of work, including 12 children and 5 women, in addition to rescuing 45 citizens, including 14 injured who were transferred to hospitals for treatment, while others survived ▪ In light of this humanitarian disaster, the Ministry of Interior and National Security affirms the following: — We extend our condolences to the people of our Palestinian nation and the families of the victims and the bereaved because of this humanitarian disaster, and we offer condolences to the souls of the martyrs who perished under the rubble of the "Al-Saada" building. — This tragedy sounds the alarm before the international community and the concerned parties that hundreds of homes and buildings in the Gaza Strip are at risk of collapse and may fall at any moment, in light of the lack of options for residents and displaced persons and the occupation's ban on bringing in temporary housing and the destruction of tents, especially with the approach of winter and the high risks it brings of wind and rain. — We call on international parties, mediators and guarantors of the ceasefire agreement to work immediately to urgently bring in temporary housing, in order to address this disaster and provide shelter alternatives for hundreds of thousands who live in worn-out tents and damaged homes at risk of collapse at any moment, and who lack the minimum requirements for safe housing. — We call on all concerned parties to provide the Civil Defense apparatus with the necessary capabilities so that it can perform its duty in dealing with the effects of this disaster and others, as the teams faced great difficulties due to the scarcity of equipment and capabilities, and a number of lives could have been saved if those supplies had been available. There are also thousands of martyrs who remain under the rubble of destroyed buildings during the war, awaiting the recovery of their bodies and remains. — The occupation continues the crime of genocide against the people of the Gaza Strip, without complying with any of the provisions of the ceasefire agreement, as the daily cycle of killing, assassinations, gunfire and artillery shelling continues on a daily basis, in addition to the occupation's evasion of its obligations and its prevention of the entry of relief and humanitarian materials, reconstruction and building materials, medical supplies and all means of life, amid the silence of all parties in the face of this ongoing genocide. — The continued silence over this tragedy, and the passage of months and years over the displaced without providing suitable housing or beginning the removal of rubble in preparation for reconstruction, constitutes a humanitarian crime that requires urgent action to end this catastrophic reality. — We salute the efforts of the field men from the Civil Defense teams, the Medical Services Directorate and the General Directorate of Police, who worked for long hours with all their energies and the available resources at their disposal, to reduce the scale of the disaster and its losses, rescue a number of citizens alive, and recover the bodies of the victims. — We extend our deepest thanks to the various government bodies and local and international institutions that rushed to support Civil Defense teams in recovery and rescue missions from the first moments of the incident, foremost among them Gaza Municipality, the Ministry of Public Works, the Egyptian Committee, the International Committee of the Red Cross, OCHA and the United Nations Development Programme UNDP. — We affirm that the Ministry of Interior and National Security and its various agencies continue to carry out their duty and work with all the capabilities and resources they have, despite their scarcity, in order to provide services to citizens and assist them in these catastrophic conditions.
